August Night, formerly Levantine Films, is an award-winning independent studio committed to telling compelling, character-driven stories that spark conversations.
GrandArmy partnered with August Night to reimagine the brand under its new identity. Together, we developed a new brand identity — a wordmark, visual system, and motion logo that captures the distinctly familiar feeling of a fleeting season — the transient moments of adventure, warmth, and wonder in the afterglow of summer.
We revisited classic analog filmmaking techniques to create a motion logo for August Night that honor’s their commitment to craft. We created a series of acrylic scenes, hand-painted on plexiglass, which we then filmed and composited in the classic traditions of animation.
The result is a live-action motion logo that reveals the hand behind each of the six paintings it’s built from. It stirs a nostalgia for riding in the backseat, the moon hanging in the sky, and the still air of an August Night.
Underlying August Night’s big emotions and bold stories, its visual system uses a flexible grid. Type is deployed in poetic layouts, and images support with an editorial feel.
The system is designed to feel both nostalgic and new, offering the flexibility for August Night to expand into new genres and formats, while remaining grounded in the emotional core that defines its stories.
